Free the Dalit!

Imagine being born into a family and living in a country where you are not considered to be human. Imagine drinking out of a clay cup and then throwing it onto the ground so that no one else can touch what you just touched b/c you are a Dalit (da-leet). Imagine living in the slums of slums and going out to the well except you can't touch the bucket there. You must wait for someone else that's not your kind to draw water and pour it into your container. Imagine waiting from sunrise to sunset and not getting any water b/c others don't even give a sh_t about you simply b/c you are a Dalit. No matter how hard you work or how smart you are, you will never be given a chance in life simply b/c you were born a Dalit. This is not even discrimination, it is simply inhumane. There are about 300 million Dalits in India.

I heard about this from Caedmon's Call @ the Fusion Conference. This is the main reason why I admire CC so much, it's b/c they live what they preach or sing in this case. They have always been in the forefront of taking action and making change. They've been promoting Compassion Int'l for years by going overseas visiting these children. Compassion Int'l is sponsoring a child in poverty and not only do they provide shelter, food, & education, but also teach them about the Gospel.

When I heard about the Dalits and as the clay cups were passed around, I can't help but get upset b/c why would anyone do such things, especially in a country like India. In the end though, sponsoring a Dalit is to do the same as Compassion Int'l, to treat them as humans and to tell them about Christ according to CC.

The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans)...and Jesus said to her, "whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Thanks Shawn...we should promote this some how...spread the word. Email that link out or something. I think there are a lot of people at Orangewood our age that would be interested in sponsoring a child, especially a Dalit...
hope you're well,
much love,
les :)
