Character is EVERYTHING
Now, I'm beginning to pay attention to the candidates out there. In this world of political spin and all that jazz, we're never sure if that candidate will actually carry our his message from the campaign trail when elected. There are the pros and cons but two things will be the clear factors for me and they are:1) their voting record
2) and most importantly, their character
As a friend told me about dating and looking for a spouse, old habits are hard to change. In other words, if someone cheats on his girlfriend or lies but says that he'll stop, be careful.
So if one candidate is tough on terrorism but has shown to have mistresses and wore drag and now are courting the conservative, be careful. If someone has always voted for abortion and has been for big govt but now is saying not so, be careful. As Jer 13:23 says, "Can Ethiopians change the color of their skin or leopards change their spots?" Unfortunately, there are many people who will be fooled by persuasive language and crafty persona.

And exactly who does that leave? :^)
Sorry, I'd suggest that it does after all leave probably Huckabee and Paul, maybe Thompson. Other than that, it's slim pickings.
if you want tough on terror/crime, wehther somebody cheats on his wife dont matter.
character is not one thing.
we have multiple characters with our being.
giuliani is obviously self centered and hard to live with. these same traits also make him a formidable enemy.
i'm not endorsing him. not at all.
but his sex life, and what leads to it, isnt a vital part of what we are looking for in a chief cop.
Rules out Rudy, McCain, Romney, Fred, Barack, Hil, Huckabee, Ron Paul...
Gino, I think I agree with your stance on that.
Bike, Fred voted for campaign finance reform, that rules him out for me.
What exactly rules out Huckabee or Ron Paul, PalmBoy? I'm not following you here.
Gino, I'd take a slightly different stance than you on this--no not a wide one--and point out that Marvin Olasky did appear to establish a correlation between marital fidelity and political fidelity to the country in "The American Leadership Tradition."
Other issues are important, of course, but more often than I'd like, a hint of sexual immorality says a lot about how a candidate would handle other issues.
Ron Paul? Oh, let us vote to not secure the country, and allow terrorits open field on US citizens...
Huckabee? Well, lets support a national ban on smoking! Thats not a private property violation at all. Taxes? They can be raised if they have to....
Got it; issues, not character per se. I agree that Huckabee's endorsement of a smoking ban & willingness to raise taxes ought to raise a flag. I thought you were talking about character at first.
Personally, I’m getting sick of hearing about all of the Presidential elections stuff, the election is in 13 months. Three and a half years ago people on the cable channels and NPR and other loser outlets were introducing Howard Dean as the next US President. How did that work out for him? At the rate it’s going the 2012 Presidential race is going to start before the next President is even sworn in, in January 2009.
