Race is narrowing

1. Do you think America is more ready for a woman pres or an African American pres?
2. On the Rep side, I think whoever gets the party nomination will need to have Huckabee as VP to get the religious votes.

It's tough to say whether America would be ready for a woman pres vs an African American one. I think I would lean more so on the woman side but that's purely subjective.

And for some reason it totally blew past me that even if they don't win the party nomination they can run alongside as VP. Mmm...

the real question is one of more intellectual depth:
is america ready for a small govt, liberty minded president who really means it?
have we progressed far enough as a people to actually discuss the role of govt in the 'land of the free', on an honest level instead of namecalling?

or are we still stuck in petty differences like religion, pigmentation, and genital possesion?

I don't think most Americans care about gender or race when it comes to electing a president. The media thinks it's some big deal and it's not.

America could be ready for a woman or black man. Or even one that's not right but just not Bush or McCain. Hillary's negatives are related to her specifically and not due to her sex. Obama has negatives from his lack of experience and his Islamic name and not his race. Even with the negatives they have I think they have a pretty good chance of winning. And yes, McCain will need someone to help pull in the conservative voter, he's spent too much time in bed with the other side for some of us.

The only area that appears to have strong reservations about having a black President is the Northeast. I don't see a problem with the rest of the country voting for a black President. Maybe someday when the media decides that equality is a good thing they'll stop emphasizing race or gender in every issue.

For McCain to win he needs a strong conservative running mate to gain the conservative vote. He would probably need a Newt Gingrich type person as his VP to get strong conservatives to vote for him in good conscience.
