Tony Campolo

Tony Campolo was in town speaking @ RTS. Here are some good notes from one of the students, Jerid Krulish, @ RTS so check it out.

Here's an excerpt:
Christians now think that, if we can have power, we can fix the country. We just need the right power, we need to elect the right people. And you should understand that I love power as much as anyone.
-----------
There’s nothing wrong with making a million dollars. There’s something wrong with keeping it.

A BMW is more than an automobile… can you imagine Jesus saying, I know that people are starving in Haiti and dying of AIDS and hopelessly uneducated, but go ahead and buy an $80,000 status symbol to make yourself look better.

You must be counter cultural why did Mother Theresa have more authority than the Pope? He was surrounded by billions of dollars worth of stuff. She gave up everything and lived in Calcutta.

YES! Being a Christian means asking ourselves difficult questions! Are you ready to deal with that.

Michael,
Actually, that was notes from Tony Campolo but I'll defend him:o) Sure it always boils down to the heart is b/c that's where your treasure is.

I was reading Time magazine's persons of the year (2005) and they are Bono, Bill & Melinda Gates. Bill's thoughts before he was approached by Bono was that he'd give money back when he retires but now he and Melinda have given billions to charities and they run it like a corporation, making sure their $ is spent wisely or funding stops. They were asked how much they would leave their kids and Bill said that Warren Buffett gave him advice to leave enough but not too much that they won't contribute to society.

As Christians, we should do the same and our lifestyle should be a msg that our citizenship is not here; therefore, living in excess is not a good witness. So yeah, I would trade in that Ferrari of yours if I were you, unless you are a selling Ferraris for a living.
