3 Words on CompUSA
1. Sucks2. Incompetence
3. Rip-Off-Warranty
One would think that going to a store that strictly specializes in computers would know more about this field than say a Best Buy or Circuit City where they sell other electronics. Such is NOT the case. In fact, I intentionally asked a question to test their knowledge and the sales guy gave me an emphatic INCORRECT answer even after I challenged him. It's one thing to not say anything or to say something but take it back but another to stand behind a wrong answer, kinda like left wing liberals.
The other thing was that I felt like I was in a meat market cuz as soon as that guy walked away, a sales gal came around. At least I have some semblance of what a girl feels like when guys act like vulchers circling her. I asked about their extended warranty and was quoted $469 for 3 year. I said that's $100 higher than BestBuy but she said BestBuy is not as good, blah blah blah. After she gave her spill, it's the same as BestBuy's.
Moral of the story is do your research before going to CompUSA, buy it there if they have the best price but don't expect support or expertise.

May I recommend you visit http://apple.com and all your questions will be answered, your heart will sing, and all will be right in the world--assuming you purchase an Apple laptop.
Jamie, if I make as much as you or 1/4 of what Ethan makes, then I can spend the extra $1,000 on the Mac Pro:o)
The compUSAs by my house are extreamly professional and work very well with electronics. I spent 3 days trying to get a product working right one time, and even though it wasn't there fault, they took care of me.
I've taken my laptop that I bought there in for service, and it was still under HP warrenty, so they packed it up and sent it out, saving me $20 in shipping. Then a month or two later, they fixed what HP didn't fix on there own.
I love these guys.
To Mac or not to Mac, that is the question. I ask 10 people, I get 10 different answers. I have a pc laptop which meets my needs. We need to get a new desktop, and we're thinking Mac; because my middle schooler uses them at school and he really likes some of the programs--like Inspiration and something called Comic (or Cartoon) something. I'm getting scared off about the price. I want to check out a place called Micro City; do you have those in your area?
I'm reminded of the joke on one of Radio Shack's ads after they shifted from old timer salesman to young pups; "you've got questions? We've got blank stares!"
Sometimes it pays to have a few guys around who are higher up the pay scale and know their way around, I dare suggest.
KD, if you get a Mac desktop, it's more reasonable and I think u can find it for under $1k. As for notebooks, the 13" is around $1k and the 15" starts @ $2k, yikes!
No, there's no Micro down here. The Mac is less prone to viruses and boots up faster so if you MUST get a Mac for your kid, then a Mac it is. As for me, it's the price diff that matters most in the end.
