What's Wrong w/ the Peace Activists

In one of World Magazine's articles, it says that anti-spanking crusades have triggered bans around the globe and are taking aim at the U.S. It goes on to say that (for subscribers only):
Dr. Aletha Solter, founder of the Aware Parenting Institute, argues that corporal punishment teaches violence to children otherwise born innocent: "What happens in each home is at the root of world peace. If we're going to be hitting children, they're going to go around wanting to hit and hurt other people. If we raise them with gentle discipline, then we're creating a gentle world."

The problem is what we are seeing now with how the UN is trying to deal with the Mideast Crisis. The EU and others think that not using force will deliver peace to that region when it consistently fails to see that people are inherently evil and when left to their own devices will do just that, evil. The point is that there must be a deterrent to teach people to behave and in the first case to love a child so that he doesn't grow up to be like the second case, a criminal who cares about nothing but the destruction of others.

It isn't necessarily a religious issue. While I believe in original sin and believe it to be the root cause of childrens' bad behavior, I know many others that are non-believers who stil recognize the value of corporal punishment for training out kids obviously selfish insticts.

There's "stupid selfish" that comes with all younguns, and "enlightened selfish" that sometimes comes with age.

I say "sometimes" because I doubt there are many that ever grow up.

If the latter is true, most won't have a clue what I'm talking about.
