Lunch w/ the Bishop

I was extremely priviledged to be invited to have lunch w/ a bishop from Uganda this Sun. He started a church 20 yrs ago w/ 3 people and for 3 yrs it did not grow by one person. Now, he's a bishop that overseas 300 churches of 80,000 people. Anyway, I learned so much from listening to him. Several things he said that struck me were:

1. Do we promote evil more that good?
2. We are living in a clash of civilization, Muslims against Christianity.
-----------
On 1, it seems like it when I walked into Blockbuster the other night and saw movies like Saw III and the likes where death and savage killings are promoted for entertainment not to mention many that promote infedility.

On 2, he has heard & seen Islamic fighters butchered civilians because they were Christians. In addition, these savage killers chop off people's arms, noses, legs because they would not join them in their jihad. They did not kill them because they want these people to serve as a warning toothers.

He was asked about his thoughts on the Iraq war and his response is that Muslims are spreading and if we don't stop them there, they will come to us here. He has seen Islamic carrying out their bombings in his country. This, he said, is indeed the biggest clash of civilization we have seen.

Last, one person mentioned that even if 1% of Muslims are radicals, that still means 14 million radicals who will do anything to destroy and kill civilians.

On the good news though, he said God is raising up churches in Uganda, AIDS has dropped significantly due to education of abstinence, and US aid on terror has contained radical Islamists there.

i have a good friend who is devoutly muslim. he knows about the christian perspective that predicts a final struggle tween his faith and mine. he says muslims do not have these prediction. instead, they tend to beleive the final struggle will be tween shia and sunni for world dominence. he sees it happening right now with the rattle from iran and the absence of saddam leaving the door wide open to uninterupted/inhindered shia domination as iran unites with iraq's shias.

in his pesrpective as a sunni, he belives the whole world will get caught in this struggle over time, and both sunni and christian have reason to fear.
in his mind, of course, the final outcome will be God's will.(to him that means the sunni will eventually win out in converting the world to the true religion).

Our society does promote more evil then good or so it appears. We are down spiraling into a pit of muck.

Before we despair to much about our society's downfall, we should remember that we serve a God that has the power to turn our country around. If he can grow a three person congregation to 300 churched and 80,000 believers in Uganda he can do it here. We need to be attentive to his call and passionate about saving the lost.
