As if it's the 1st

So I'm making an attempt to read the Bible as if it was my first read meaning no commentaries and forgetting the books that come after. In an essence, trying to put myself in the feet of those living at the time. Therefore, here's what I found. Try reading it and see if you come to the same conclusion and answer my questions if you can. Remember, put yourself back in those days:o)

Gen 4-6
1. Why did God prefer animal offerings than plants?
2. Lamech was the 5th gen of Cain and 1st note of having more than one wife, he was also more wicked than Cain, then great wickedness on earth...sin perpetuates and multiplies.
3. Eve had a third son, Seth, and that line came Enoch. Enoch walked w/ God and God took him away. What was the reason?
4. First mention of 40 in ...For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth. Yeah, yeah, this was w/ hindsight of 40 days in the wilderness. It's not easy I tell ya:o)

interesting thoughts...If we approach the Bible chronologically, and don't assume the full revelation we now have, I think Genesis brings up more questions than answers...regarding Cain and Able's sacrifices: the first record of blood being shed was when God clothed Adam and Eve with animal skins (assuming that He actually killed something to get its skin). They had already tried to cover their shame with leaves sown together, but an animal, blood shedding covering was the only thing that God would accept. That is at least one earlier indication that God prefers a blood sacrifice. What do you think?

I think that they covered themselves with leaves in haste, realizing their shame, but switched to animal hides because they are superior for warmth and protection. Mind you, I'm not saying that to be the least bit snarky, it just seems to make sense.

I've wondered too about blood sacrifice. The important thing, of course, is that Christ fulfilled this for one and all. (oops, looking ahead in the text!)

As far as Enoch being taken away; there was one other human being who never died--Elijah. I've heard theories that it will be Enoch and Elijah who will be the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation during the great tribulation. The two witnesses will die, and the bible does state that it is appointed for man to die once, and then his eternal destiny is determined. That would fulfill this requirement in their cases. Of course it could also just be a foreshadowing of what will happen with the church, how some will not see death, but will taken up to meet the Lord in the air when He comes again.

Mercy, do you want all the answers, or do you want to enjoy the mystery as Scripture unfolds and unveils itself for you? :^)

Personally, I'm of the opinion that there are some things I'll never understand fully on this side of the River, and I can appreciate and even enjoy that mystery.

1) God preferred animal offerings because He wanted to emphasize man's dominion over animals. Man didn't need assurance of his dominion over plants

2) I wouldn't read too far into your statement in #2

3) Lamech was the seventh from Adam's line (via Cain) and he was evil personified. In contrast, Enoch was the seventh from Adam's line (via Seth) and he was good personified. Like Elijah God just wanted to take him up because he lived a life honoring to God.

4) I'm not sure of your question in this one
