Fired by Email

Just when you think things can't get more impersonal, RadioShack Fires 400 Employees by E-Mail. See article. Then I have read articles where people break up relationships over email. What's next? Getting a pdf certificate of divorce over the net?

Lying to Yourself?

Have you ever lied to yourself? Here are some examples of what I mean:

1. A friend did an unwise thing and said that it wasn't the wisest thing to do. He did it again and said the same afterward. This then becomes a regular occurrence now and he says the same every time. Does he really believe his actions are not the wisest?

2. People, myself included, have said they really want to do devotions regularly and pray more often but they just got too busy and never got around to them. They really mean it when they say this. If they really want to do something, would they not do it than make up excuses?

3. Someone genuinely says he/she loves someone be it to a lover, family member, or friend yet his actions show otherwise. Does he really love this person?

My question is do we have lies that we tell ourselves? If so, are we going to face the truth like realizing that we don't love God as we say we do or continue to believe in our own lies? If the latter then how can we tell the truth to others when we can't even tell the truth to ourselves?

How Great Is Our God?

I woke up this morning and received an email from a friend living in a Muslim country. I had teary eyes as I was reading this with great joy. Here's an excerpt.

Last Sunday we had the privilege of witnessing nine locals be baptized! Some of them have been believers for a while, but now wanted to make their confession public that Jesus is Lord – both before the Church and the on-looking beachgoers. This is very risky in a Muslim country but they were all undaunted and standing firm in their faith as they obeyed Jesus’ command to be baptized.
----------------
This is great news indeed as some of these countries impose death for converting to Christianity. Actually, I know of a family who is here in the states and cannot go back to Saudi Arabia as there's a death sentence on them. Then I think about my faith here and ask myself how would I live in such a way as these nine in risking their lives to glorify Christ?

Just a ***WARNING*** before you comment and that is please do not give any specifics regarding places or names of people in sensitive areas. Thanks.

Name above all names
Worthy of our praise
Our hearts will sing
How great is our God!

Happily Ever After?

Below are excerpts from an interesting article.

'Say Anything' (1989)
The premise: Sincere guy wins heart of beautiful, smart girl.
The problem: Money. She's going to have financial hang-ups; he's going to be broke.

'Pretty Woman' (1990)
The premise: Cinderella is a hooker; Prince Charming is a ruthless businessman.
The problem: Skill in screwing other people is not a solid foundation for a relationship.

'My Fair Lady' (1967)
The premise: A snooty bachelor professor promises he can pass a guttersnipe off as a high-society girl with six months' training.
The problem: That he'd make a bet like that.

'The African Queen' (1951)
The premise: Opposites attract in the jungle as a spinsterish English missionary hires a salty boat captain to avenge her brother's death.
The problem: In the long run, opposites repel.
-------
My question is do these movies affect our view on relationships, even in Christian circles?

Is the Koran Dangerous?

From this article:
LONDON - Brothers arrested in Pakistan and England emerged Saturday as key figures in a suspected plot to destroy U.S.-bound aircraft during flight, while prominent Muslims in Britain accused the government of encouraging extremism through its foreign policy.

Taking this logic, the aggressor/criminal now becomes the victim. Let's take a look at the current conflict in the Middle East. Israel decided to w/draw from Lebanon in 2000 to make peace and the result was Hezbollah importing tens of thousands of rockets then attacking Israel. So we make peace w/ the Islamic terrorists, and they continue to make plans to attack the peacemaker. We then have policies to protect us as a result of their cowardly aggression and they blame us. They have simply proven that logic doesn't work for them and the only way to stop them is to track them down.

The Koran despite what Muslim leaders tell you is not a peaceful teaching. It calls for them to kill all infidels so whether we are out of Saudi Arabia, stop our support for Israel, or w/ draw from all Muslim lands, they will still find a reason to attack us because they are following the Koran.

Celibate Marriage?

Interesting arcticle:
LaRae Lundeen Fjellman could lose her state license as a massage therapist for having sexual relations with her husband.

Her husband, Kirk Fjellman, is a former client. He saw her professionally from October 2000 to May 2002, and the two say they started dating in July 2002. But when they consummated the relationship a few months later, they ran afoul of a Minnesota law that bans massage therapists from having sexual relations with former clients for two years.

Guess every guy needs to check all the laws before getting married huh:o)

What's Wrong w/ the Peace Activists

In one of World Magazine's articles, it says that anti-spanking crusades have triggered bans around the globe and are taking aim at the U.S. It goes on to say that (for subscribers only):
Dr. Aletha Solter, founder of the Aware Parenting Institute, argues that corporal punishment teaches violence to children otherwise born innocent: "What happens in each home is at the root of world peace. If we're going to be hitting children, they're going to go around wanting to hit and hurt other people. If we raise them with gentle discipline, then we're creating a gentle world."

The problem is what we are seeing now with how the UN is trying to deal with the Mideast Crisis. The EU and others think that not using force will deliver peace to that region when it consistently fails to see that people are inherently evil and when left to their own devices will do just that, evil. The point is that there must be a deterrent to teach people to behave and in the first case to love a child so that he doesn't grow up to be like the second case, a criminal who cares about nothing but the destruction of others.

The Middle East & the End Times

According to this Newseek article, Tim LaHaye says:
I have often said that no one knows the day nor the hour that Christ will come, but no generation has had so many signs of the times as our generation. We have more reason to believe that Christ could come in our lifetime than any generation before us.

If we look at history like WWII when millions were slaughtered or the Bubonic Plague/Black Death where 1/3 (25 million) of Europe's population was wiped out or in the early church under the rule of Nero, people thought they were near the end times. LaHaye is right in the sense that as far as time goes, the present generation is closer than the previous but that's about it. So my question is what part of no one knows the day nor the hour does Mr. LaHaye not get?
